I had perhaps one of the coolest first rehearsals ever for a project last night - we spent it at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The project, and NYU thesis film called "Leave Your Toys", depicts the fraught relationship of a man (Stephen) with his aging Holocaust survivor mother (Marika), and her desire to share her story with her young grandson (Peter). I play the mother to Peter and wife to Stephen, and my presence as a Christian woman adds more tension to the piece. The script is beautiful and moving - made even more so because it is based on the real experiences of the writer/director, Sam Barnett. Back to rehearsal at the MET - Sam wanted to give us a unique way to bond and connect as a "family". We walked through the halls, chatting as ourselves, then sat and read through part of the script. It was wonderful.
